Clinical Problems with Discs that “Taco”
So we all know what this is right. To an extent, it’s basic physics. When talking about a product that’s measured in micron thickness, anyone would assume that flimsiness is ever present. Same thing with dehydrated amniotic membrane discs when they hit the warmer air outside the vacuum sealed packs they come in, they roll up, curl up or as some have said “taco”. That can be a problem to handle, or really just a hassle. However, clinical problems can occur in which the allograft taco’ing creates an abnormally raised or creased interface between the corneal surface and the bandage lens. This can make for abraided corneal surface and possible the need to throw out the lens in order to start over…a costly issue.
